Diary Confessions No. 9 (1955)
Boldly melodramatic cover featuring a tearful heroine caught between two men, emblazoned with a tagline like “I Wanted More Than Love Could Give!” Inside are three turbulent romance stories: a secretary ensnared by her boss’s affections, a young woman lured by big-city excitement, and a small-town couple tested by jealousy. Typical Stanley Morse fare — splashy, confessional, and morally corrective by the final page.
Stories included in issue #9:
Test for Two Lovers (6 pages)
Kid Sister! (2 pages)
She’s So Young (5 pages)
Hero Worsship (7 pages)
Alone! (5 pages)
Diary Confessions No. 10 (1955)
Cover theme: the shame of forbidden romance. Tagline in the lurid 1950s tradition such as “Too Many Kisses…Too Many Lies!” Stories include a woman who breaks her engagement for a wealthy charmer, only to find betrayal; a “confession” about falling for a best friend’s fiancé; and a diary entry where a jilted lover must face the gossip of a small community. Stylized art with heavy linework captures the heightened emotions.
Stories included in issue #10:
War Bride (6 pages)
Gamble for Love! (1.5 pages)
Rich Man’s Daughter (6 pages)
Teacher’s Pet (6 pages)
Love Problem! (5 pages)
Diary Confessions No. 11 (1955)
Cover depicts a woman clutching her diary with anguish — tagline along the lines of “My Heart Betrayed Me!” Interiors tell of a working girl entangled in office intrigue, a widowed mother tempted by a younger man, and a college romance ruined by rumors. Themes of guilt and redemption dominate, with heroines learning to choose “true” love over glamour or desire.
Stories included in issue #11:
The Debt! (6 pages)
A Boom to Bob (2 pages)
Vacation Romance (7 pages)
Love Can Wait! (5 pages)
Don’t Change Me! (5 pages)
Diary Confessions No. 12 (1955)
Cover emphasis on scandal: a young woman shown in a compromising situation, perhaps overheard by shocked friends — tagline: “Ashamed of My Past…Afraid of My Future!” Stories include a dancer’s brief flirtation with nightclub life, a daughter torn between family duty and personal happiness, and a tale of a runaway engagement ring. High on melodrama, perfect for collectors of “confessional” romance covers.
Stories included in issue #12:
Cinderella and the Prince! (6 pages)
Nearsighted Love (2 pages)
Skin Deep! (5 pages)
Love Is for the Living (7 pages)
..But I Love Him (5 pages)
Diary Confessions No. 14 (1955)
The last in this short run of mid-1950s issues, with a cover tagline such as “Trapped by My Desires!” Interiors include a cautionary tale of a girl who dates too many men at once, a secretary whose romance risks her career, and a story of a young woman pressured into marriage too soon. The blend of scandal and moral lesson makes this a quintessential example of post-Code romance publishing.
Stories included in issue #14:
Jilted! (6 pages)
Love Comes to Hartsford (2 pages)
Sacrifice! (8 pages)
Stage Struck! (4 pages)
A Love Story! (5 pages)
